The original is still safely in my Photos library. This makes a copy of the file at a location I specify (usually my desktop) instead of revealing or moving the original file. To edit images, I go to my library and select the image or images I want to export, then go to: File > Export > Export Unmodified Original. My main computer is my MacBook Pro and I use OS X’s Photos to import all my images. Check out my post here for my method of organizing and backing up digital images. It was a huge project but it felt so great to get it all done and caught up.
